Monthly Competition Rules

Projected Images

The On-Screen Section seeks to encourage members to gain experience and enjoyment through tackling a variety of subjects. To facilitate this a series of set subject competitions is run during the season; usually seven competitions including one for a set of three images on a related subject.  Judging is normally done on the night of the competition.  It is hoped that all members will participate and, preferably, take images especially for the competitions. Images may be submitted as 35mm slides or as digital images on a CD.

The rules are:

  1. Images must not be more than two years old and should not previously been entered in an IDPS competition or accepted in an IDPS Exhibition.
  2. Two images may be entered for each of six specified set subjects and one set for the year’s Set of Three images on a related subject. Each image will be awarded a mark out of 10 except that the Set of Three will be awarded a mark out of 20. The higher mark of each pair will count towards an overall season’s total made up of the highest six out of seven marks so attained. In addition an Open image may be submitted with the two set subject images (but not with the Set of Three). This will also be marked out of ten and the five highest scores added to the Set Subject marks. The winner of the competition is awarded the Colour Group trophy, which is presented at the last meeting of the season and held for one year.
  3. Slide entries – Each slide should be marked with the entrants name at the top and (if desired) a title at the bottom and with a large spot in the bottom left hand corner with the slide viewed correctly plus an “A “ or “B” to identify individual slides in a pair of entries.

4. Digital entries –

a. Digital images should be supplied in JPEG format on a CD. Each disc should be clearly labelled with the entrant’s name(s).

b. Images will be projected at an image size of 1400 x 1050 pixels and it is therefore recommended that images be entered at or within those dimensions.

c. Full instructions on how to submit your entries can be found by clicking on the button below.

d. All constituent parts of a digitally manipulated image shall be the sole work of  the entrant.

e. Unless the entrant instructs otherwise the images may be retained on the Society’s laptop computer or stored elsewhere for a period of up to two years for use in a possible “Best Image of the Year” competition or for entry into Digital competitions.

5. Entries must be handed in on or before the closing date stated in the programme.
